Myanmar coup: Facebook, Instagram place immediate ban on military
Social media giant Facebook has banned Myanmar's military and its affiliates from its platforms. The military has used Facebook to boost its claim of voter fraud in the 2020 election. For the overwhelming majority in Myanmar, Facebook is the primary means of access to the internet. Facebook cancelled their accounts after a UN report called for several leaders to be investigated and prosecuted for genocide over their role in violence against the Rohingya minority and others. Facebook had then also acknowledged that many in Myanmar relied on the platform for information, "More so than in almost any other country".
