Facebook sales soar despite data scandal

Facebook's quarterly sales rose by nearly 50% in the social media giant's first results since a privacy scandal over users' data emerged. In March, towards the end of Facebook's reporting period, the company was caught up in a massive privacy scandal involving the political consultancy Cambridge Analytica,. Facebook admitted that the data of 87 million users had been improperly shared with the consultancy. Facebook said the average number of daily active users over March had risen to to 1.45 billion, a 13% increase year-on-year. The average number of monthly active users for March also rose by 13%, to 2.2 billion, and the number of staff saw a steep 48% increase to 27,742.
